Description
A wonderful, leisurely, short hiking trail with a wide variety of landscapes.
Until the First World War, the cave was used by day laborers and new arrivals. However, the simple construction, the balanced temperatures in the caves and the animal husbandry were offset by hardships such as having to fetch water from the village every day, so this form of housing was abandoned in the 20th century. The cave can still be visited today, as it was repaired in 2010 and restored to its original form. Particular attention was paid to preserving the original paintwork. Directly in front of the cave, benches and tables invite you to take a break and enjoy the wonderful view.
The hike to the cave can be started in Nußdorf or alternatively in Reichersdorf. The trail leads past vineyards and orchards with wonderful views of the Alpine foothills, the Weinviertel and Tullnerfeld. Inns and wine taverns in the villages along the route invite you to stop for a bite to eat, and the farm-gate sale of wine (Traisental wine-growing region), fruit juices and other delicacies such as apples, schnapps and jams is a practical feature. Overnight accommodation is also available in Nußdorf or Reichersdorf.
The tour is also suitable for children, as the paths mostly lead through open terrain and are not overcrowded.
