The town is characterized on the one hand by the ponds and on the other by the Premonstratensian monastery. It is the northernmost monastery in Austria with a richly decorated baroque church. The Geras Nature Park is family-friendly and offers a wide range of opportunities to get close to nature: Wild horses and a petting zoo, bat trail, educational trail on pond dwellers and a bird observatory are just a few of the stops in the forest and pond landscape. Sika and red deer, mouflons, aurochs and lynxes can be discovered, observed or explained by expert guides.
The Edlersee offers recreation: a large meadow with trees and play stations, a beach volleyball court, mini golf and a shallow beach for bathers. Fishermen try their luck on the other shore, while an inn and campsite complete the offer.
The Geras art courses have a long tradition. They were the first of their kind in the 1970s. Around 170 seminars take place throughout the year at the academy.GERAS in the abbey studios and in the Meierhof.
