Fugnitzbergweg

On the way from Geras to Fugnitz, at the highest point of the landscape, you can look back at the pond-dotted landscape in which Geras is nestled. After passing the summit of the Kreuzberg, where graphite was once mined, the trail heads toward the village of Fugnitz. The oldest house in the village (No. 1) is a museum featuring old farming tools and a smokehouse that is still in use from time to time. The trail then takes you a short distance along the Fugnitzbach stream through a floodplain forest. After passing the abandoned Steidlmühle mill, the hike heads back to Geras via the Goggitschberg.

As a memento of your hike along the Fugnitzbergweg in the Waldviertel, you can pick up a hiking badge from Geras Abbey and/or the Geras Nature Park at the abbey shop in Geras Abbey or at the Hubertushaus in the Geras Nature Park.
