Further Niemtal Hofladen Genusswanderung

The starting point for the family-friendly “Niemtal Genuss” farm-to-table hike is the parking lot in Furth, located on the right-hand side just past the town center. Once you cross the state highway and walk past the parish hall and church, you’ll see the first farm store on your right. After crossing the Further Bach, you’ll see chickens and, shortly afterward, the cows belonging to the Lechner-Kirchenkrenn . The farm stand is located right on the farm, behind the wooden fence on the right-hand side past the house entrance. The selection is extensive, and the farm stand is lovingly decorated. In the summer, they offer “refreshing drinking yogurt” as well as various delicacies from their own chickens, cattle, and pigs, plus seasonal products from the garden—ranging from spreads and syrups to pestos. It’s best to do your shopping at the end of the loop hike.
Refreshed with some yogurt, head back a short distance, turn right at the church, pass the kindergarten and gym, as well as a great playground on the left, and continue straight ahead to the Vienna Pilgrimage Trail. Keeping to the left, you’ll reach the main road via a short uphill path. After crossing the road and the bridge—between two houses—continue to follow the white/green/white trail markers.
From here on, the trail climbs gently until you reach a gate. Two planks on the ground lead off to the left into the forest, right next to a hunter’s blind. From there, you hike along forest and meadow paths, climbing gently all the while, passing between two fenced-off cow pastures. You’ll come across cattle gates again and again. Passing the wayside shrine, you’ll go through the gate, right through the middle of a large farm with many cows and other animals.
Following the flat forest road, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of meadows and forests until you enter the woods. Continue on the gravel road toward Weissenbach, keeping left at the next gate, on pleasant forest ground, following the white/green/white trail markers through the woods. After a short flat stretch, the trail climbs gently again until you reach the next clearing, where you can admire a fantastic view. After a short section through the woods on a slight incline, the forest trail becomes a gravel road again, and you’ll pass a lumber yard and a hunter’s cabin.
Here you’ve reached the highest point of the hike, and the trail continues along the gravel road—which gets wider and wider—partly flat and partly slightly downhill. On this section of the hike, you’ll discover many young trees and timber storage areas before more and more rocks begin to appear in the forest.
At the “exit” from the forest, you can admire the magnificent view of the Niem Valley, with its many charming farms, while resting on a bench. Keep to the right until the next turnoff onto the Vienna Pilgrimage Trail, which you follow a short distance to the left into the Niem Valley.
Once you arrive in the Niemtal, you’ll find a cozy covered arbor, and right after that, on the left, the first farm-to-consumer shop. Niemtal 1a is the first farm store to open in Furth: the Reischer family runs “s’Gschäft am Hof” and, starting in January 2022, will once again be selling homemade bread, wonderful pastries, delicious spreads, and a wide variety of sausages and meats every third Saturday of the month. Since the farm store is currently undergoing renovations, deliveries are made by order.
Just two houses down, at Niemtal 2a, you’ll find the “Andrähof,” which sells seasonal fine brandies and liqueurs as well as game and lamb meat straight from the farm (check the notice board).
At the “Hüdahof,” at Niemtal 4, you can not only purchase wonderful Dirndl products, specialty mustard, and homemade teas, but also stay overnight in an 80 m² vacation apartment that has been lovingly renovated and can accommodate up to 10 people. Two horses and one donkey are sure to make children’s eyes light up.
From Niemtal, you can take the Vienna Pilgrimage Trail back along a short stretch of the quiet road, passing many cows. At this point, a wonderful view of Furth’s picture-perfect landscape opens up. Following the signs for the Vienna Pilgrimage Trail into the forest, you’ll walk on fairly level ground, with occasional gentle descents, until you reach the next clearing, where a bench invites you to take a break. From here, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of Maierhof, the Schromenau, and the higher mountains beyond.
Continuing along the gravel road toward the valley, you’ll pass the first few farms before the rustic yet modern wooden farm store of the Lechner Schaupp family comes into view on the right. Schauppi DAS KUH’LE EIS treats its guests to homemade ice cream and many other delicacies. The farm shop is beautifully decorated and open for shopping from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
After enjoying a delicious homemade ice cream, head back to the Vienna Pilgrimage Trail for about 100 meters of gentle descent, past “Land Drink,” then turn right onto the fairy-tale-like Promenade Trail. Along the stream, you’ll see a picturesque landscape of meadows, mountains, and plenty of cows. Every now and then, a bench along the Promenadenweg invites you to take a break until you cross two wooden bridges and return to the road. Turn right onto the main road after about 100 meters to reach the Gasthof zum Furthnerwirt, which tempts you to take a longer break—complete with a great playground for kids.
Well-refreshed, hike back along the state road to the striking rock formation and then turn left onto a small side street, following the Vienna Pilgrimage Trail toward the town center. Upon reaching the center of Furth, you’ll pass the fantastic playground, kindergarten, and gymnasium on your way to the church, where you’ll find the first farm store on our hike, MagMan, is the perfect spot for a leisurely shopping stop.
After that, simply cross the bridge, pass the church and parish hall, and cross the state road to finally arrive back at the parking lot.

If you’ve worked up an appetite on the long hike, you can stop right next to the parking lot at the Kirchenwirt—run by the Hofer family right next to the parking lot and treat yourself to a meal.

It’s no wonder Furth is known as the “Valley of Innkeepers”—with many family-friendly inns and guesthouses.
