Galgenberg Hiking Trail

Irnfritz-Messern is still largely untouched by mass tourism, making it a true paradise to relax and unwind. Here you can really unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature. The municipality has a lot to offer in terms of cultural heritage: Wildberg Castle, the former branch church in Wappoltenreith, the Galgenberg with three stone-walled pillars, the ruins of Grub Castle, which was built to protect Wildberg and the medieval high road leading over the Brunner Berg, and the pilgrimage church of Nondorf/Wild. A visit to the brick museum in Trabenreith or the exhibition of the painter Adolf Blaim in Messern is also a must. The beautiful area around Messern and Taffatal is particularly suitable for relaxing hikes in unspoiled nature. On the road from Irnfritz-Ort to Messern there is a beautiful natural pond right on the edge of the forest, where fishing permits are issued by the market town of Irnfritz-Messern.

Route description
The trail takes you through the forest and, after crossing the road, follows the Great Taffa River for a short distance. To reach Galgenberg—which served as an execution site for Wildberg Castle—you’ll need to walk uphill for a short distance along Trail 633. A beautiful view awaits you there. The trail then leads back to the starting point via Nondorf, following the railroad tracks.
