There is a risk of falling behind the Hubertusmarterl!

When choosing your route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your fully charged cell phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border tours, please always carry a passport or ID card with you.

Sturdy shoes, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles if needed, first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).

From the market square, walk to the right of the doctor’s office toward the wooden walkway with a weir across the Kleine Krems, then turn left toward Galgenberg. After about 1 kilometer, you’ll reach a wayside cross: Turn around and enjoy the magnificent view of Kottes! This is also where the paved path ends; continue to the right on the dirt road, past a wildlife feeding station, until you reach the Hubertus wayside shrine. Sit down and take a moment for quiet reflection. Behind the shrine, a small trail leads to a spot where you’ll have a beautiful view all the way down into the Danube Valley. But be careful: danger of falling! Now continue on to the small settlement at the foot of the Galgenberg and you’ll return to a paved road. Turn right toward the footbridge, cross the Kleine Krems, and head back to the market square.

There is plenty of parking available right on the market square.

Take the A1 to Melk, cross the Danube Bridge, and continue downstream to Spitz/Danube. At the roundabout at the entrance to Spitz/Danube, take the second exit; after about 15 km, cross the Spitzer Graben toward Mühldorf to reach Kottes.

Take the S5 via Krems/Danube to Weißenkirchen/Wachau. At the end of Weißenkirchen, turn right onto the Seiberer (mountain road); after about 15 km, you’ll reach Kottes.

Coming from Zwettl, take the B36 to Ottenschlag; turn left at Ottenschlag Castle, keep left again at the Jager company, and after about 7 km, you’ll reach Kottes.
