Hiking trail between Gmünd and České Velenice
Hiking trail between Gmünd and České Velenice
The town of Gmünd was particularly affected by the consequences of the world wars. As a result of the peace treaty of St. Germain (1919), Austria ceded a large area near Gmünd to what was then Czechoslovakia, including today's České Velenice. Two towns with a common history were separated from each other. This themed trail leads through the towns of České Velenice and Gmünd-Neustadt and conveys the immeasurable suffering of the people in a vivid way.
Track characteristics: 100% asphalt
As a memento of your hike along the “Ge(h)schichten zweier Städte” trail in the Waldviertel, you can pick up a hiking badge from the Blockheide Gmünd Nature Park at the shop near the observation tower in Blockheide.
Hiking badges are round plaques, designed and inscribed using pyrography, which serve as both a souvenir and a recognition of outstanding achievements. Dedicated hiking badge collectors are rewarded with a free premium hiking badge. For more information, visit www.wandermarken.at.
