Description
The tour starts at the Terzerhaus at the summit of the Gemeindealpe Mitterbach. It is best to hike to the Terzerhaus the day before and spend a night at lofty heights - or take the cable car, which will also take you to the summit of the Gemeindealm.
Soon after starting from the Terzerhaus, the trail descends along small paths and lush meadows. Later, denser forests provide cooling. After 1.5 to 2 hours, you reach the Vorderötscher refuge. A small refreshment awaits hikers here.
After the shelter, the trail descends steeply again into the Ötschergräben, past the Mirafall to the Ötscherhias snack station.
From the Ötscherhias you continue hiking through the wonderful Ötschergräben - past the Wienerbruck power station and the Lassingfall. After approx. 2 hours you reach the Ötscher-Basis Nature Park Center in Wienerbruck. In addition to numerous nature education and information about the region, the Ötscher-Basis offers a cozy lakeside terrace and a restaurant dedicated to the use of regional products. An ideal place to round off your hike with culinary delights...
The Mariazell Railway runs between Wienerbruck and Mitterbach. You can either park in Wienerbruck and take the Mariazellerbahn to Mitterbach before the hike. Or you can cover the route in the evening.
A slightly shorter version of the hike leads from Ötscherhias in the direction of Erlaufklause (also a stop on the Mariazellerbahn).
- safety instructions The path through the Ötschergräben partly leads over narrow boardwalks and includes some narrow passages. Good footwear and sure-footedness are recommended. Please inform yourself beforehand about possible trail and road closures in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park.
