Description

This hike up the 347m high Kronberg not only brings those interested in nature closer to a unique natural area, but also offers deep insights into the countryside around Böheimkirchen. Different panoramas open up at several points. At one point, the view sweeps over the hills of the Vienna Woods to the Ötscher, at another over the expanses of the Tullnerfeld to the Waldviertel. The churches of Herzogenburg and Heiligenkreuz, as well as Neulengbach Castle, are clearly visible. In between, there is the village of Böheimkirchen with its imposing church. The highlight of the trail is the romantic Haspelwald, a small forest on a unique mountain range, formed from the remains of the Bohemian Massif. In the middle of the forest lies the Maria im Walde grotto, which invites you to rest and linger. Decades ago, a statue of the Virgin Mary was placed there in a hollowed-out rootstock. In cooperation with the municipality and the landowners, a man who had recovered from a long illness erected a new statue in 2010 after returning from the Way of St. James. After walking through spruce forests, you reach the Königsbühel, above the Schreckhäusel farm. The name is a reminder of the presence of Salian kings in the 11th century. It was at this time that the parish of Böheimkirchen was founded by the diocese of Passau. The end of the hike leads across cultivated land, along the Perschling, back to the town center.
