Heimatleitenweg

From the lower end of the main square, first walk down Höberthgasse and Höberthstiege, then continue down Wiener Straße. A short distance past the Thaya Bridge, the Heimatleitenweg begins slightly to the right. It runs along the Thaya River, passing two wayside shrines, to the Südostsiedlung. On the access road to the farms, walk a short distance south, but at the right-hand curve, continue straight ahead on a forest and meadow path. After 10 minutes, you’ll reach the Saalmühle. Just before that, take the paved road up to the B5 and cross it. From here, a dirt road leads to Matzles. At the chapel, turn left onto a paved road and continue straight ahead at the first fork. The path climbs slightly at first, but then descends steeply (with a beautiful view) into the Kaltenbachgraben. Following the stream, you’ll reach the Predigtstuhlweg; as described in Loop 12, follow it via Altwaidhofen and the Thayasteg back to the city.
