The quiet village of Schwarzau im Gebirge lies between the Rax and Schneeberg mountains on the Schwarza river. With its largely wooded municipal area, the village is ideal for hikes and time out in nature. There is also a small but beautiful nature park here that is ideal for excursion destinations. Those interested in culture can admire the churches and chapels. Schwarzau is the ideal starting point for hikes up the Obersberg. The Waldfreundehütte Obersberg is located on its summit at 1464 meters above sea level. Hikers who stop off at the hut can see up to 36 Eastern Alpine peaks. A heavenly panorama in the truest sense of the word, when you consider that some pilgrims on their way to Mariazell also stop off here. For refreshment, for example, cheese dumplings or a slice of homemade cake are served.
Pilgrimage routes to Mariazell, on which a detour to the Waldfreundehütte on the Obersberg is possible, are the Burgenland Mariazellerweg and the last stage of the Marienweg. A regional route of the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail) from the Edelweißhütte on the Schneeberg into the Preintal valley also leads through Schwarzau im Gebirge.
Your hikes in the Viennese Alps should be a thoroughly beautiful and safe experience. Please observe the following:

We always follow the course of the path. At the first crossroads, we go straight ahead, then the path winds and we reach another crossroads which we cross straight ahead.
