Description
A recommended circular hiking trail with an ascent to the Hochkogel in several stages and many beautiful viewpoints. The trail runs mainly on roads and freight paths and lets you feel the impressions of the Alpine foothills on the ascent to the high trail. Once you reach the top, you can appreciate the almost infinite charm of this region, because in good weather the distant views extend from the nearby Ötscher across the mountain ranges of the Eastern Alps all the way up to the deep Waldviertel.

- Route description We walk from the market square via Wassergasse - Grießenbergstraße to Grießenberg and then further down to Kalkstechen, where we turn left towards Schleiferhub. We continue along the farm track to the main road and then turn right to Göttersdorf and from there turn left further to Litzllach. The path leads straight across the property of the Prigl family ‘Hofladen Litzellach’, continuing down the farm track to Lixing and then back up. Past several farms, we continue to the main road where we walk a short stretch to the left before turning right again. Uphill we go via Engelsberg further to Latzelsberg and in a large curve via the farmhouse on the Spurweg further up to Handlesberg. On the main road, we proceed via Pauxberg to Ferndorf, from where we start the next ascent to the Hochkogel.On the road, we walk uphill via the curve 'Eselsreith' to the Hochkogel junction L-6112. Just past the Panoramastüberl inn, we continue hiking uphill into the forest and on the high-altitude route, first on the path and then on the road, to the Sonnleiten farm. There is the option to ascend right towards the summit. Left, the path continues along the high-altitude route to Hinterhof, where we take a left descent a bit before the farm. Passing the farms Ramöd, Walchenöd, and Grub, we hardly reach the hollow before going back uphill to Niederaigen. In the middle of the village, we look left up to the Marienkapelle. The path continues right to Hinterberg, where at the junction we also turn right first to Seibetsberg and then down into Mittergafring. At the junction by the Gafringwirt, left, we immediately turn right uphill again to Pollenberg to the Mostheuriger of the Zeilinger family. From there, we begin the return walk to Euratsfeld. First still a stretch on the main road and then turn right towards Aichet, down through the nearby Guglumpf settlement to the Gafringbach, there before the bridge turn right through the settlement and along the creek to the bridge at the Stockschützenplatz. From there, it goes up the Brunnengasse back to the starting point.
- Parking Parking is possible in the town center at Mockplatz, Vetterplatz, and at the parish community center.
- Getting there From the A1/Exit Amstetten West or Amstetten East via the B1 to Euratsfeld. The route is well signposted with "Euratsfeld" or "Randegg".
- Public transport By train to Amstetten and from there by bus to Euratsfeld.
- Editor’s tip The hiking trail passes below the Hochkogel summit and intersects there with several mountain hiking trails from the neighboring village of Randegg. The ascent to the summit leads through a suckler cow pasture. Please observe the safety instructions. The Marienkapelle in Niederaigen is easily accessible via a short detour of just a few minutes.
