Hubertusweg Nr. 18

Route characteristics: 15% asphalt, 70% forest road, 15% forest trail

You start the Hubertusweg at the Xundwärts-Parcours (Motorikpark®) in Hirschenwies. After a short climb from the Parcours toward the upper part of Hirschenwies, you’ll reach the first stop, the Glockenstuhl. Just before the Glockenstuhl, turn right and follow the road to the fork. There, keep to the right and continue along the forest trail into the woods. After a short stretch, the trail continues along a beautiful little path through the quiet forest, past stunning mossy clearings. You’ll cross a small stream and follow the gently ascending trail. At the next crossing, turn left and continue hiking for about 1.5 km—discover the beauty of the Waldviertel’s nature.

The Hubertus Trail runs along the Czech border for a short stretch. Would you like to take a little detour? If you keep to the left at the next sign, you’ll reach the “Via Verde Border Crossing” (the borderless leisure and wellness trail) after about 600 m. This trail connects our town of Moorbad Harbach with the Czech town of Horni Stropnice. The entire 33-km loop takes you past many sights, places to stop for refreshments, and breathtaking natural scenery. However, since you’re hiking the Hubertus Trail today, follow the gently sloping forest path for about 700 m to the next stop: the “Red Cross,” featuring a beautiful, hand-carved statue of Jesus donated by regular visitors. At the “Red Cross,” turn right and follow the forest path, past the Hubertus Hut, until you reach the next intersecting forest road. The Hubertus Hut was built by Ledwinka, a music professor from Salzburg, as a resting place when there was still a beautiful view of the valley from there. Today, the hut is in the middle of the forest. At the forest road, turn left and hike about 900 m to the starting point of your hike, the Xundwärts-Parcours (Motorikpark®) Hirschenwies.
