Description

This section of the Way of St. James begins in the Vienna Woods municipality of Purkersdorf to the west of Vienna. It first leads through the hilly landscape of the Vienna Woods covered in deciduous forest (Troppberg hiking region), passes the monastery ruins on the Riederberg and then reaches the edge of the Tullnerfeld in Sieghartskirchen. Continue via Siegersdorf, where a pilgrim's self-catering hut invites you to rest and linger. In Würmla, the trail enters the "Weinland Traisental" tourist region and continues westwards, past the Bildeiche and eisernen Hand to the Jakobsbrunnen in Langmannersdorf. We reach the geographical center of Lower Austria and then the Augustinian canons' monastery in Herzogenburg. The Way of St. James continues to the northeast via Walpersdorf Castle past vineyards to the Maria-Elend pilgrimage chapel and Paudorf, where the Lower Austrian Mariazellerweg is marked.Paudorf, where it crosses the Lower Austrian Mariazellerweg, into the picturesque foothills of the Dunkelsteiner Wald forest to join the next section of the Austrian Way of St. James to Melk at the Benedictine Abbey of Göttweig. Detailed information can be found at www.traisental.at.

Over 200 signposts now guide pilgrims safely along the 67 km long section and 12 pilgrim information boards along the way provide information about places of interest and important addresses (accommodation, doctor/pharmacy, shopping and church services etc.) in the respective municipality.
