A tour to amaze - the Krems Valley ("Kremstal") cycle path never ceases to amaze with its diversity of flora, fauna and ambience.
The Krems Valley ("Kremstal") cycle path leads from the town of Krems through the multifaceted Kremstal valley to the idyllic plateau in Kottens - and this much can already be revealed: This route offers pure variety! Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this cycle tour features steep river valleys and rugged rocky areas with pioneer grasslands as well as extensive alder, ash and willow meadows. But the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) cycle path is also worth a detour or two. The historic Hartenstein Castle towers above Maigen and invites you to take a hike. Close to Voitsau is the abandoned Königsmühle mill and its beautifully restored house. Once you reach the plateau in Kottes, a detour up to the Waldviertler Hochlandweg is recommended and on the way back, the local history museum in Scheutz provides a cultural diversion. The tour finally ends back where it began: in the heart of Krems.
Krems an der Donau - Rehberg - Senftenberg (immediately after the town sign, the footpath leads to the Senftenberg ruins) - Reichau - Nöhagen - Maigen - Purkersdorf - Els - Kleinheinrichschlag - Marbach - Kottes (immediately after the Ford workshop is the connection to the Waldviertel Highland Trail) - Purk - Albrechtsberg - Lichtenau - Loiwein - Untermeisling - Senftenbergeramt - Krems an der Donau
Over a distance of 73.4 kilometers and with an ascent of 907 meters, the Kremstal Cycle Path offers not only something athletic but also scenic! The route follows the Krems River initially to Senftenberg, then through the diverse Kremstal from Nöhagen to Maigen, where the first stop awaits: the historic Hartenstein Castle. Afterwards, the route continues to Marbach on the Kleine Krems and Kottes-Purk. On this section, the next highlight is the old Königsmühle. Upon arriving in Kottes, there is also the connection to the Waldviertel Highland Trail – a detour is worthwhile here as well. The return route leads from Purk via Albrechtsberg on the Große Krems to Scheutz, whose local history museum offers another stop. Via Lichtenau and Untermeisling, it goes back by bike to Krems, where many inns are waiting to properly celebrate the successful cycle trip.
