When choosing a route, make sure it matches your mountaineering experience and physical fitness. Check the weather forecast in advance. Make sure you have the right gear, such as sturdy boots, trekking poles, waterproof outdoor clothing, a hat, etc. Be sure to drink plenty of water, even in winter! Be mindful of the early onset of twilight and plan your hike with particular care. Check whether the huts and snack bars you plan to visit along the way are open. Let someone know your chosen route and your planned return time before you set out. Stay on marked trails and avoid taking shortcuts. Please also keep in mind that trail markings may be hidden by snow in winter, so be sure to prepare thoroughly for your hike! Do not litter; dispose of your trash properly.

Make sure you’re properly equipped for the season (cross-country skiing gear, winter-appropriate clothing). Bring a hiking map and your cell phone, and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140. You can rent cross-country skiing equipment at Sport Puschi 2000 at the Semmering Pass summit.

The Liechtenstein Panorama Trail begins above the Südbahn Hotel near the Hochstraße. It follows the forest road, passing beautiful viewpoints overlooking the Rax-Schneeberg massif, and climbs gently for 7 km to the turnaround point at the foot of the Ochner.

From Vienna, take the A2 Südautobahn to the S6 Semmering Expressway and take the Maria Schutz exit. Turn right onto the L4168. Continue on Semmering/L4168, Semmeringstraße, and Passstraße until you reach the B306.

From Graz, take the S6 Semmering Expressway and take the Spital/Semmering exit. Turn left onto Semmering Ersatz Str./B306. Continue on the B306.

Take the train to Semmering Station.
