Description
Under the motto "Small places - big stories", selected town walks in Römerland Carnuntum and Marchfeld lead along sometimes unknown paths to historic buildings and old walls, through beautiful nature and hidden alleyways.
The medieval town was first mentioned in a document in 1074 and a lot has happened since then. The Bruck an der Leitha town walk tells the eventful history of Bruck - from the planned construction of the imposing fortifications, enemy sieges and early trading privileges to the former moated castle of Schloss Prugg and the annual visit of the emperor.
To discover the Carnuntum-Marchfeld site walks, simply download the "Site Walks" app onto your smartphone, either online as a WebAppor as a native app, which does not require an internet connection on site. Your position is displayed on a map as you walk - so you always stay on the right track! Google Play Store or App Store
- Route description You start at the Main Square Bruck an der Leitha, at the display case in front of the Naglreiter bakery. Here awaits the first audio story "The Secret of the Cross Orb". Now you cross the street and turn into Kirchengasse (pedestrian zone). Walk straight ahead until you almost reach the end, where you can read information about the former church gate on a glass information board. The board is located at the level of Schmalgasse on the left side. Upon arrival, the second audio story "The Busy Kirchengasse" follows. Then walk to the end of Kirchengasse, where the guild tree mentioned in the audio story can be seen. Now keep right and follow the directional arrow, pointing right towards Raiffeisengürtel. Follow this until you reach the beautiful city moat and, passing the roundabout, continue along the city walls until you reach a rest area with display panels. There you can take a short break and learn many exciting details with the third audio story "The Contested Border Town Bruck". Continue straight ahead, cross Wienergasse, and proceed until you reach Schulgasse, where you turn right. At the beginning of Schulgasse on the left side is the striking Pechnase. The audio story "A Clever War Ruse" tells more about this building and the turbulent times. At the next fork, turn left into Raabergasse. At the bend of the street to the right, the fifth audio story "How Raabergasse Got Its Name" awaits. Continue towards the castle. You cross Hainburger Straße and go straight into Johngasse – and the "castle" is already visible on the left side. The audio story "Imperial Jubilee Celebration in the Castle" reveals more about this building. Follow Johngasse and turn left into Stefanigasse. After a short distance, you arrive at Schloss Prugg. Here waits the last audio station "Schloss Prugg and the Harrach Family." Continue through Schlossgasse, turning right at the end into Burgenlandstraße. This street leads back to the Main Square, the starting point of the local walk Bruck an der Leitha.
