An inspiring hike over the Seebensteiner Schlossberg to the artificial ruins of Türkensturz - easily accessible by public transport! Visiting the Türkensturz ruins is only possible at your own risk.
Easily accessible, starting point at Seebenstein railroad station, from where the route continues along the Bahnstraße. In summer, the outdoor pool provides the necessary cooling. The ruins on the Türkensturz are not only a highlight in themselves, but the view also captivates many hikers.
In 2023, the tower of the ruin Türkensturz collapsed after heavy rains. Since then, extensive efforts have been made to preserve the remaining structure. Visiting the ruin is only permitted at your own risk, climbing or similar activities on the masonry are strictly prohibited.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a thoroughly enjoyable and safe experience. Please note the following:
Preparation
Make sure that the chosen route matches your mountain experience and fitness. Check the weather forecast beforehand. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly. Therefore, always start out properly equipped (e.g. rain protection).
Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit are open. Inform someone about the chosen route and your planned return before you set out.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes appropriate for the route, bring sun and rain protection as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone with you and save the emergency numbers of the rescue services: Rescue 144 / Mountain Rescue 140
The route starts at Seebenstein train station and continues along Bahnstraße towards the town center until the right turn to the Parkbad is reached. About 100 meters are covered back into the town center on Neuen Schlossweg. The path gently ascends to Große Reit and continues straight ahead to Türkensturz. From the hut on Forstweg, the route continues eastwards to Sollgraben. After reaching a barrier, follow the path to the left. The route continues ascending to Sollgrabner Alm. At a distinctive crossroads, take the forest road to Bergschloss. Then follows the descent back to Seebenstein via Alten Schlossweg to Parkbad. A shortcut option would be to use Eselsteig instead of Alten Schlossweg.
