Description
If you love variety, enjoy combining gentle hills with the alpine mountain area and trying out new things, you will be thrilled by the Mostviertel River Cycle Tour. This tour combines the Mostviertel's cycling delights, the brand new with the tried and tested, let yourself be surprised!
The varied tour starts and ends in the provincial capital of St. Pölten. First you cycle along the Pielachtal cycle path to Melk, then along the Danube cycle path to Ybbs. Here the tour turns onto the Ybbstal cycle path, into the heart of the Mostviertel - the Moststraße.
At the next stop - one of the cider barons - you can taste the specialties of the Mostviertel and, of course, the region's namesake - cider. From here, the tour leads into the alpine areas of the Mostviertel.
The next stage destination is Waidhofen an der Ybbs. This is where the new section begins, the heart of the Ybbstal cycle path - built on the former railroad line. It promises undisturbed cycling pleasure all the way to Lunz am See.
The next day begins with a relaxed bus ride. Cyclists and bikes comfortably negotiate the incline of the Zellerrain to reach the famous pilgrimage site of Mariazell. After a visit to the basilica and Pirker's gingerbread world, the tour continues along the Traisental cycle route to St. Aegyd am Neuwalde.
The final stage is a relaxed ride down the Traisen river from St. Aegyd back to the starting point in St. Pölten.
