Circular hiking trail through the municipal area of Jaidhof, also passing through the Eisengraberamt and Eisenbergeramt districts, which are rural scattered settlements with a rural character in an atypical Waldviertel hilly landscape.
ÖKO-Dorf-Weg with the Br. 01, well signposted throughout with yellow signs, has a route length of approx. 11 km, the time required for this is about 3:30 hours, 120 meters of altitude difference uphill and 130 meters downhill. 3.5 km of the route are rather flat, 3.8 km are uphill and 3.6 km downhill.
Make sure when choosing your route that it matches your fitness level. Check whether the catering establishments you want to visit along the way are open. Pack your charged mobile phone and map material in your backpack. For cross-border routes, always carry a passport or ID card.
Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, map material, if necessary telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water).
You start your hike at the municipal office in Jaidhof heading west and reach the Edenbühel settlement or the Ökodorf settlement, from which the hiking trail also gets its name. At the Ökodorf settlement, keep left, hike up a meadow path and continue along the forest edge to the Lusthausweg. Turn right there to the B32, then about 100 meters left, then right again on the paved municipal road through the Eisenbergeramt with wide views to the Horner basin, to the Schauenstein ruin and much more. You pass the goat enclosure to the Fischerplatz with the Trinity chapel. From here, a detour to the "Gartenhummel" is worth it – in the farm shop of the Föls family you will find a wide selection of herbs, fruit spreads, chutneys, syrups, salts, and teas harvested and processed on their own farm. The path continues into the Kalten Graben. The name is due to the fact that in this valley by the Bruchetbach it can be very cool in summer and icy cold in winter. The artist Othmar Komarek also has his home in the Kalten Graben. After the Kalten Graben, keep left. The path leads up to a high plateau, from where you can already see the destination, Jaidhof Castle. However, you continue to the Drescherteich, which you bypass on the left, passing an old forester's house, a beautiful hollow path with an orchard alley until you reach the "Alte Eishaus", a local museum, and the destination, the municipal office Jaidhof.
Municipal office Jaidhof
Vienna - Krems - B 37 to the Jaidhof exit, from the direction of Zwettl - B 37, Jaidhof exit.
Next train station - Krems an der Donau, bus connection to Gföhl or Jaidhof.
There is a stopover option in Jaidhof at the Schlosstaverne Kargl. Since all paths are well paved and developed, cleared in winter, very well signposted, and wide enough, it is also possible to complete the route with larger groups by bike or explore the circular hiking route by running.
