The owl trail is an experience for the whole family. Along the eight stations you can learn all kinds of interesting facts about the owls of the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area.
The owl trail leads along a stream into the head of the Windischbachau valley and is an experience for the whole family. Interesting facts about the five owl species found in the Dürrenstein wilderness area - eagle owl, Ural owl, tawny owl, great horned owl and pygmy owl - are presented along the trail at eight stations. The scenic attractions and the structures of the second Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline also make a visit worthwhile. The trail runs partly on an asphalt road, then along a forest road and can also be used by bike.
In case of storm, there is a risk of falling branches, and the trail must not be used.
Sturdy footwear, snack
From the Rothschild Pond parking lot in the Steinbach Valley (Göstling/Ybbs), follow the paved road downstream to the actual start of the Owl Trail. At the end of the paved road, continue straight along the forest road for about 2 km to the head of the Windischbachau valley (=turnaround point). Return along the same route to the parking lot.
The one-way distance is 3.4 km. Including the return trip, a total distance of 6.8 km and the necessary time should be planned.
