Description

An almost high alpine path leads you at a steady pace through the primeval forest-like Lechner Gräben. You soon realize that a good level of fitness does not hurt on this 2-day tour. At the "Grünloch" - a huge sinkhole - you hike past the cold pole of Central Europe. Who would have guessed? Further sinkholes define the atmospheric path between Hirzeck and Wiesenalm up to the Ybbstalerhütte, your overnight stop. The next morning, freshly refreshed, you head across the heavily karstified alpine pastures, overgrown with krummholz and tall herbaceous flora, to the Legsteinhütte. The route continues over a uniquely karstic limestone plateau with deep sinkholes and bizarre karst furrows as well as rich alpine flora to the summit of the Dürrenstein (1878 m) with its ornate Töpper cross - the alpine highlight of Lunz am See!

The breathtaking 360° panorama will leave you speechless...

The descent leads first through lush mountain pine fields, later over the lush alpine meadows of the Herrenalm (temporarily closed) down to the Leonhardikreuz.

There you leave the alpine pasture area and descend into the idyllic forest basin of the Obersee. The emerald green mountain lake - a legendary natural jewel surrounded by rustic mountain forest - enchants with its small island and rare swimming lawn. A comfortable forest road then leads downhill through the wild and romantic Seetal valley, past the "Roaring Bull" (underground waterfall) and the approx. 60m high Ludwigfall down to Mittersee lake. Now it's not far to the last of the three mountain lakes, Lake Lunz. A refreshing swim there is the perfect way to round off an eventful tour.
