Description
The starting point of the signposted circular hiking trail (1 hour easy walk) is the Hochschneeberg mountain station at 1800 m above sea level. You will be amazed by the wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The Salamander playground for families and the Elisabethkircherl are an extraordinary experience.

Weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always start equipped accordingly (e.g., rain protection).Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit on the way are open. Inform someone about your route choice and your planned return before you set off.Remember that you will be in high alpine terrain at 1,800 m above sea level. Here it is at least 10 degrees cooler than in the valley and the weather can change very fast.
- Equipment Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for the route, bring sun and rain protection as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone with you and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
- Route description The hike starts directly at the mountain station of the Schneeberg Railway. Passing the Salamander playground, we go to the Puchberg viewpoint and further to the summit cross of Waxriegel. A place to stop for refreshments can be found at the Damböckhaus. The route continues past the viewpoints. Here we see the summit of the Schneeberg, the Rax, and also the Wechsel. Then we proceed to the Elisabethkircherl and back to the mountain station.
- Parking Directly at the Schneeberg Railway or along the parking guidance system.Attention: Short-term parking zone in the town center
- Getting there Arrival from Vienna: Take the Südautobahn A2 towards Wiener Neustadt to the exit Wr. Neustadt West. From there along the federal road B26 towards Puchberg am Schneeberg. The route is well signposted.Arrival from Graz: Take the Südautobahn A2 towards Vienna to the exit Neunkirchen West. From there towards Ternitz and along the federal road B26 towards Puchberg am Schneeberg.
- Public transport Take the train to Wiener Neustadt. From there, change to the regional train to Puchberg am Schneeberg and get off at the last station. Take the Schneeberg Railway up the Schneeberg.Direct excursion train on weekends: Departure at 8:41 am from Vienna Central Station, return at 4:36 pm from Puchberg station.By bus from Neunkirchen, Ternitz (line 350), and Pernitz (line 330) to Puchberg am Schneeberg station.Further information can be found at www.oebb.at, www.vor.at and www.schneebergbahn.at
