Note: Detour Piestingtal Cycle Path in Gutenstein - From June 23, 2025, the Blättertal Bridge in Gutenstein will be closed for approximately 5-6 weeks due to renovation work. During this time, the Piestingtal Cycle Path in this area is not passable due to construction work. However, there is a well-signposted local detour for cyclists. This scenically impressive cycle route starts at the junction from EuroVelo 9 in Sollenau. A popular starting point is also Markt Piesting, which together with the adjacent municipality of Waldegg has a good rail connection. From here, the route leads along the Piesting into the eponymous valley – through quiet, natural sections that invite relaxed cycling. A large part of the route runs through the municipality of Waldegg, which scores with varied landscape, shady sections, and charming resting places. It also becomes culturally exciting: The route passes through the valley of poets, musicians, and painters up to Gutenstein. Famous personalities such as Ferdinand Raimund, Johannes Brahms, Friedrich Gauermann, and Leopold Kupelwieser have left their marks here. Along the route, several Biedermeier pavilions recall the period between 1815 and 1848 and offer charming opportunities for short stops with historical flair. Those who want to learn more about this era and its people are recommended to visit the Forest Farmers Museum in Gutenstein.

Description
The Piestingtal Cycle Path connects to the international EuroVelo 9 cycling route in the municipality of Sollenau. From here, the route leads about 22 km through Felixdorf, Steinabrückl, and Wöllersdorf to Markt Piesting, the gateway to the Piestingtal, also called the Biedermeier Valley. The following places Waldegg, Pernitz, and especially Gutenstein and Muggendorf are shaped by the first half of the 19th century, the Biedermeier period. Ferdinand Raimund, who was particularly taken with the landscape around Gutenstein, has dedicated a monument to this area. The historical painter Friedrich Gauermann also immortalized this valley. A museum is dedicated to him in Miesenbach.
In Gutenstein, the endpoint of the leisurely section of the Piestingtal Cycle Path, Ferdinand Raimund is still felt today. A museum and a memorial commemorate the great poet. His grave can be found at the cemetery in Gutenstein.
Every year, the Raimund Festival takes place in Gutenstein, where plays by and about Ferdinand Raimund attract great attention.
From Gutenstein, the cycling route continues to Rohr im Gebirge. The stretch to Rohr has inclines of up to 15 percent, making it a challenge for sporty riders. But as a reward, a picturesque backdrop and warm hospitality at the Gasthaus Furtner or the Hotel Kaiser Franz Josef await.

- Route description From the large parking lot in Markt Piesting, the route leads past the small hydroelectric power plant over the Piesting bridge. In the Minnatal, just after Markt Piesting, is the birthplace of Leopold Kupelwieser. Unfortunately, it is not publicly accessible. The path leads through the floodplain area past the foot of the Starhemberg ruins and shortly afterwards reaches open terrain again. Across meadows and pastures, several information pavilions are passed before reaching Ober-Peisching after a total of 6 km. After another kilometer, the municipality of Waldegg is reached.Over the Kirchenriegl, the route leads into the Schwarzviertel to the natural monument Kalksinterader. Now follows the most idyllic section, as the path runs directly alongside the river landscape of the Piesting. The valley narrow "Quarb" with its special hanging bridge is worth a second look. On the further way, the villages Öd and Reichenthal are passed and the cycle path continues through dense forest towards Ortmann. In the Pernitz basin, it passes the Raimund Villa and after a forest section, Gutenstein is reached.
- Parking Sufficient parking spaces are available both in Sollenau and in Markt Piesting.
- Getting there Coming from Vienna, you reach Sollenau via the A2 motorway (Baden exit). Keep right onto B210. At the intersection with B17 turn right towards Wiener Neustadt. After about 10 km you have reached Sollenau.Coming from the south, leave the A2 motorway at the Wöllersdorf exit. Keep right and take the B21 to Markt Piesting.
- Public transport The S-Bahn (S3) from Vienna Main Station runs regularly to Sollenau. Regional trains also depart from Vienna Main Station.Via Wiener Neustadt, the starting point Markt Piesting is regularly reachable by regional trains. The Piestingtal Railway runs parallel to the cycle route with stations in numerous places.Exact information about current departure and arrival times can be found at www.oebb.at.
