Description

In Waidhofen from the Thaya you have the choice of doing a loop to the Thaya, i.e. following the Thaya loop signposts or taking the direct and shorter route via the railroad station to Jasnitz with the Thaya loop south signposts. After Jasnitz, you reach the tracks again on field paths in the direction of Schwarzenau and, together with the Kamp-Thaya cycle route, you reach Wohlfahrts and Vestenpoppen after a short ride. As you pass through the village, you will see one of the typical wooden bell towers and after crossing the Thaya, turn right and cycle along the Mühlenweg to Meires. The pretty moated castle is now owned by the well-known and award-winning filmmaker Michael Haneke. Now turn right and cross the Thaya and after the bridge turn into the asphalt field path and follow the markings. After the hill, turn left towards Windigsteig, cross the Thaya again and you will see the Windigsteig train stop in front of you. You now enter the town and reach the main square. A cooling fountain and a pillory from the 17th century offer a welcome little rest stop.
