Blacksmithing has left its mark on Ybbsitz like no other trade. The Blacksmiths' Mile offers visitors a vivid insight into the craft of ironworking and its traditions.
The forging mile, which is almost eight kilometers long, has become a backbone along which the town and locals align themselves. Between the Kleine Ybbs, the foothills of the Alps, the stately farms in the north and the Prochenberg and Maisberg in the south, a land spreads out that lives from the authenticity of its economic situation and past and draws its strength and charm from the interwoven world of nature and work. The beautifully designed adventure hike is all about the art of blacksmithing: part of the trail is the impressive adventure bridge, a 25-metre metal arch bridge created by local blacksmiths that spans the Prollingbach waterfall. Along the waterfall trail, you pass blacksmiths. After a short ascent to the goldfish pond, the route leads back through Dr. Meyer Park, following the Blacksmith's Mile to the "Black House", where the path leads back to the town center and the starting point. A journey from the present to the past and back again.
Sturdy footwear, provisions, notebook for the highly interesting facts
From the town center, follow the signs for "Schmiedemeile" (brown signs). "Milestones along the way:
On the return journey, the Schmiedemeile takes a detour via the "Tannhäuser Steig" to the Tannhäuser Cave, where the "Tannhäuser" – a knightly figure – has his home. The loop is just over 1 km long and first leads over a goods road and forest road, later over a narrow forest path before reaching the state road again. This section can also be shortened directly via the state road.
