We leave the hut behind and keep the pond on our right. After crossing the farm road, we head diagonally up the slope ahead of us, passing below the “Pfeiffer” house. Looking back, we enjoy the view of the pond area with the cozy hut and the farms in the background. The trail continues to the right of the “Pfeiffer” house, over the hill, into a small clearing in the forest. We continue to the right, crossing a path to reach a large meadow. On the horizon, we can make out part of the cross-country ski trail. We cross the trail and climb up a slope, cross the road, then cross the trail again, and hike over the next hill to Schöneck. In Schöneck, we enjoy the beautiful landscape, walk past the snow-covered houses, and back into the forest toward the “Rentenberger” estate. Walking along the horse paddock, we can enjoy watching the horses frolicking in the snow and continue on, crossing ditches both large and small, until we reach the cross-country ski trail again, which leads us back to the Frauenwieserteich. Back at the hut, a warming fire, hot drinks, and Waldviertel hospitality await us.
