Starting at Lake Edlesberg, House No. 15, this 3.6-kilometer loop trail takes you through the Weinsberg Forest around Lake Edlesberg, Austria’s oldest reservoir (built around 1670). Located at a heart-healthy elevation (nearly 900 m) and surrounded by fragrant coniferous forest, the 14-hectare Moor-Eisen swimming lake is largely unspoiled and truly idyllic. Except for a small area on the southern edge, the lake is unspoiled. You’ll hike a short stretch along the lake before venturing into the sheltering woods of the Weinsberg Forest. The mostly flat forest trail, with only two gentle ascents, takes you past the small Höllberg with its mystical and bizarre granite boulders. Along the way, several benches invite you to take a short break and enjoy this landscape with its Scandinavian flair. On the eastern shore of the lake, at the intersection of hiking trails 625 (Kremstalweg) and 22 (Ysper-Weitental Circular Hiking Trail), the “Schwemmen” seating sculpture invites you to linger.
