Check the weather forecast in advance. Weather in the mountains can change quickly and unexpectedly. Always start properly equipped (appropriate footwear, rain protection). Check if the huts and snack stations you want to visit are open. Inform someone about your route choice and planned return before setting off. Stay on marked paths and avoid shortcuts. Due to dryness, meadows and forests are easily flammable. Handle fire with respect and immediately report any possible fire to the fire department. Do not litter and dispose of waste properly.8 Basic Rules in the Mountains
- Equipment Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes adapted to the route, bring sun and rain protection as well as water and a snack. Take your mobile phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
- Route description The hike starts at the Semmering pass. You have to walk a short section along the L4168 road until you reach a sharp curve where you turn left. The path leads to Semmering train station. Here, visiting the information center about the Semmering Railway World Heritage Site and the "Carl Ritter von Ghega" monument is recommended. Continue following the signage of the Lower Austrian railway hiking trail to the viewpoints around the Wolfsbergkogel (Doppelreiter viewing tower and 20 Schilling View). Now, turn left off the railway hiking trail and above the small football field, the path passes by the Semlitsch sculpture park. The path then goes steeply uphill past Villa Leidenfrost along Friedrich Schüler Street. There the path rejoins Hochstraße. Follow the street, passing the Panorama Hotel Wagner and the parish church back to the pass.

- Getting there From Vienna take the A2 South Motorway to the S6 Semmering expressway and take the Maria Schutz exit. Turn right onto L4168. Continue on Semmering/L4168, Semmeringstraße and Passstraße to B306.From Graz take the S6 Semmering expressway and take the Spital/Semmering exit. Turn left onto Semmering Ersatz Str./B306. Continue on B306.km.
