The former monastery and today's seminar hotel Refugium Hochstrass was a regional hub in the last century, and as we hike through it we can feel the former vitality and power of this place. Walking through the old Stations of the Cross into the forest and a visit to the small monastery cemetery afterwards invites you to pause for reflection and rest. The hike offers a variety of landscapes, the highlight of which is the panoramic Hegerberg.

Description
On the way from Stössing to the Refugium Hochstrass seminar hotel, we come across several wayside crosses and chapels. When we reach the hotel, the buildings and the traces in the landscape remind us of the once busy times of this place. Generations of young women were extensively educated here in the agricultural housekeeping school of the Christian order of the Daughters of Divine Love. The former convent was also of great importance as an economic, cultural and medical center for the surrounding area. In addition to the Stations of the Cross and the convent cemetery, you can visit the historic cheese dairy if you book in advance. Our route continues over extensive meadows and a ridge to the Hegerberg. After a wonderful view and good home cooking, we return to Stössing via the new Hegerbergstraße and an adjoining section of forest.

- Route description The small Stössing circular hiking route starts in the town center at the municipal office in Stössing. The path leads us from the town square by the fountain on the Landeshauptstraße towards Brand-Laaben, after about 300 m we turn right towards Stollberg, the road runs along the Buchbach, we pass 3 trail crosses. Shortly before the turnoff to the Seminarhotel Refugium Hochstrass, we go uphill over an inconspicuous meadow path – up to an orchard alley and thus reach the Atzinger estate. Here we march past below and come via the farm driveway to the Reifbach farm road – the Klosterstraße. This leads us in switchbacks up to the Seminarhotel Refugium Hochstrass, over two more switchbacks to the Siedl estate and then, now already on a gravel road, to the exposed “Ecker” house, a former farmstead. Slightly uphill along the meadow ridge, our path leads into a hollow way that takes us northward to a wooded elevation. Keeping the path, we now hike straight through the Hegerberg saddle to the elevation and thus up to the Johann Enzinger shelter. After enjoying hearty home-style cooking, we take the return route via the Stössing Hegerberg road. Passing the Oberhegerberger farm, we enter a beech wood, where after a trail cross we leave the road to the left and shorten the way via a forest path. Back on the asphalt road, after about 800 m we descend to the Hendlgraben. From there it is about 10 minutes downstream on the Landeshauptstraße back to our starting point.
