Description
The starting point of the trail is at the hiking starting point right in the center of the village, in front of the municipal office. Walk in the direction of the former Gasthof zur Post until you reach the cycle starting point and follow the babbling Otterbach stream downstream to the Naschgarten.
Turn right here towards the Teufelsriegel. An unusual hill in the middle of the field. According to legend and the legend of the founding of St. Wolfgang's Church, the devil tipped over his chest, leaving a large heap in the field, the so-called "Teufelsriegel". The trail crosses the main road and takes you through the Wolfgangssiedlung. After a short climb, a breathtaking viewing platform opens up around the Wolfgangskirche church, which offers a panoramic view over the picturesque valley.
According to legend, it was founded by St. Wolfgang, who had the inspiration during a hike to hurl an axe into the Feistritztal valley above the Kampstein in order to build a chapel on this spot. The footprint left behind on the "Antrittsstein" can still be seen today. Guided tours can be requested from the "Friends of St. Wolfgang's Church" association from April to September or from the Kirchberg am Wechsel tourist office (02641/2460).
Tip: Visit the "Kirchberg-daham-Platzerl" just above the church and enjoy the beautiful view from there.
Continue up the steps into a wooded area. Here you can discover the local flora and fauna and, with a bit of luck, hear the chirping of birds and the rustling of small animals. The tranquillity of the forest opens up after a while at the scout house. The rest of the walk takes you along the monastery walls. Take the time to take a short break on one of the benches before you reach the forecourt of the parish church.
A viewing highlight that offers you a panoramic view over Kirchberg. From here you can admire the beauty of the landscape and take photos for your album. Walk towards the village square, or take the wooden steps on the left as a shortcut, past the 1000-year-old lime tree before returning to the starting point. The walk through the hiking village shows you the beauty of nature, cultural treasures and the warmth of the villagers. Take your time to enjoy every moment in these beautiful surroundings.
