A loop trail starting in Laa an der Thaya and heading south through the municipalities of Fallbach, Gaubitsch, and Unterstinkenbrunn.
This bike route will impress you with its historic castles and romantic wine cellars. The lookout point at “Weißenberg,” between Hagenberg and Friebritz, will surprise you with a view stretching deep into the Thaya Valley and across to our neighbors in the Czech Republic.
The “From the Castle Ghost to the Raspberry Liqueur” bike route begins next to the spa hotel in Laa an der Thaya and leads through the Laa Plain to Hagendorf. Here, at the Village and Woodturner’s Museum, you can rediscover many rarities from days gone by and gain insight into an almost forgotten craft. From Hagendorf, you’ll cycle through hilly terrain on your way to Loosdorf. Here, you can discover many interesting things at the Castle Museum, and you should definitely plan a visit to the Klampfl Goat Farm and the Hummel Organic Berry Garden. The route continues to Hagenberg, where you should pay a visit to Hagenberg Castle, which even still has a moat. The observation deck on the Weißenberg between Hagenberg and Friebritz offers a view deep into the Thaya Valley and all the way to the Czech Republic. Via Friebritz, you’ll then continue on to Fallbach, where the beautiful fortified church of St. Lambertus awaits you.
You’ll then ride through Gaubitsch and continue toward Oberschoderlee, where you can enjoy a beautiful view at the “7 Berge Blick” and take a relaxing break. From here, the route leads downhill again and through mostly flat terrain. After a break near Oberschoderlee, you’ll cycle on to Unterstinkenbrunn, where a very special attraction awaits—the “Loamgrui” cellar district, one of a kind. It was built around a central square and features its own narrow streets and a multitude of small houses arranged just like an archetypal village. What makes it special is this: for every large house in the village of Unterstinkenbrunn itself, there is a small replica in the cellar district.
The tour then takes you further along the Gansbach stream to Hanfthal and finally back to the starting point in Laa an der Thaya.
The route starts near the "Therme Laa" hotel, where parking is also available. Both regular bicycles and e-bikes can be rented at the "Therme Laa" hotel.
By car, Laa/Thaya can be reached directly via Federal Highway “B6” from Vienna or “B46” from Mistelbach.
Laa/Thaya can be reached by taking the Schnellbahn from Vienna (via Wolkersdorf and Mistelbach). There is also a bus service from Mistelbach's main square to Laa's town square.
