Description
Imposing medieval fortified towers, romantic and spacious alleyways form the unique backdrop for an unforgettable stay in Waidhofen an der Ybbs. The town has a long and successful history behind it. An enviably high quality of life and wealth are based on the time when it was still possible to do good business with iron from the Erzberg. If you venture out of the old town onto the hills of the Mostviertel, you will gain an incomparable view of this pearl. Today, the cultural diversity of the town makes Waidhofen the cultural center of the Mostviertel region. Since 2007, Schloss Rothschild, which was remodeled by Prof. Hollein, has been home to an exhibition based around the theme of the 5 elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
- Route description From the Upper Town Square Waidhofen an der Ybbs, head towards the Lower Zellerbrücke Ybbs footbridge, past the Hotel Schloss an der Eisenstraße, and after the park pool keep to the right bank of the Ybbs towards Raifberg until the Rehau junction toward the mountain village Windhag. Now there is a slight ascent to Windhag, where a rustic cozy inn offers a well-deserved break. Rested and full of energy, you walk a little back, over forest and meadow paths you reach Waidhofen an der Ybbs again. On the halfway there, you should take the time to visit the Höritzauer mill.
