Path no. 35
Yspertal, the sunny vacation resort with its magnificent natural jewel, the Ysperklamm gorge. Here, hikers experience an impressive interplay between the elements of wood, stone and water! Tips: Tennis and leisure center, year-round indoor swimming pool, local history museum in Altenmarkt (including the life's work of the "Schalenstein researcher" Pastor Hans Wick to admire, mysterious facts about the legendary, mystical places in the region), Hoffmann riding stables. Worth seeing: Rorregg Castle (privately owned by the Habsburg - Lorraine family), Wimburg ruins (from the 14th century, widow's seat of Agnes of Hungary), St. Urban's Church in Pisching, St. Magdalena's Church in Altenmarkt with pictures from the school of Kremser Schmidt and Paul Troger, St. Laurentius' Church in Ysper with "carving". All hiking trails from Altenmarkt and Ysper are signposted from both starting points!
This is an easy loop trail starting at Ysper, featuring many lovingly designed rest areas. Passing the church, the trail leads us along “
” toward St. Oswald to the entrance of the nature trail (a colorfully painted building on the right side of the road). On the gently ascending forest road, we come across the first information board about the local flora and fauna. We follow the trail markers to the right along an idyllic forest path. Plants are frequently labeled with their German and botanical names. Soon, we reach the forest playground via a side path branching off to the right. Returning to the trail markers, we arrive at the forest chapel. We pause briefly and walk uphill on the paved road; behind the next farmstead, “Untergrub,” we take the dirt path on the right leading to the bird nesting boxes. Back in the forest, we come to the Geierstein on our left, featuring a sacrificial bowl, which we can easily climb via a ladder. The final information point is dedicated to the local geology. Now we walk slightly downhill to the paved road, which we follow to the right—all the way to Ysper’s market square.
