Weinviertel Donau Radtour

At Bahnhofsplatz in Korneuburg, turn right onto Donaustraße. At the intersection with Wiener Straße (B 3), turn left toward Korneuburg’s main square and the imposing town hall with its city tower, which offers beautiful views of the Weinviertel region. From the main square, continue along Stockerauer Straße, then turn left onto Hofaustraße toward the Danube. Passing through the idyllic Korneuburg floodplain, you’ll reach the Danube cycle path. Cycle first along the Danube and then through the unique landscape of the Danube floodplains to Stockerau. This festival town, home to Lower Austria’s tallest church tower, blends the contrasts of urban life and unspoiled nature. Take Unterrohrbacherstraße to reach Unterrohrbach, then continue straight ahead toward Oberrohrbach. At the edge of Unterrohrbach, after passing the Asperlkeller, turn right onto the street “Am Weichselberg.” Follow this road for about 2 kilometers; the route winds repeatedly uphill and downhill. Here, you can enjoy the rolling hills of the Weinviertel up close. Along the entire route, you’ll have repeated opportunities to catch a glimpse of the impressive Kreuzenstein Castle. You’ll then reach the “Kohlstatt” neighborhood and come to the road leading from Leobendorf to the castle. Turn left and head uphill; after a few meters, you’ll reach the Kreuzenstein Castle parking lot. This medieval castle, which had fallen into ruin, was rebuilt in the 19th century as a tourist attraction. Today, you can explore its medieval kitchen, Austria’s largest private armory, and many other artifacts from the Middle Ages. Don’t miss a visit to the castle, the eagle sanctuary, and the castle tavern!

Heading steeply downhill, you’ll now reach the wine tavern village of Leobendorf via Burggasse. From Leobendorf, the route continues through Tresdorf to Harmannsdorf and on to the wine and wine tavern village of Stetten—or you can take the shortcut here directly to Korneuburg. Even from a distance, you can see the landmark— the Weinviertel Fossil World in Stetten, with its observation tower shaped like a tower snail. Embark on an expedition back to the time when the Weinviertel oyster reef was formed. In just a few steps, you’ll travel back to the fascinating tropical world of 17 million years ago—when it all began here!

The numerous vineyards and fields characterize the surrounding area. The bike tour leads through Königsbrunn to the well-known wine and Heurigen village of Hagenbrunn. Particularly worth seeing here is Hagenbrunn’s cultural center—“my way.” Seven sculptures by various artists depict the seven most significant stages of life and invite reflection.

Via Klein-Engersdorf, you’ll finally reach Bisamberg, where you should take a little time to stop and enjoy the fine Bisamberg wine at one of the many wine taverns. Passing by the foot of the Bisamberg, you’ll reach Langenzersdorf, where, at the intake structure—the end of the Danube Island—the Weinviertel Danube Bike Tour joins the Danube cycle path and leads back to Korneuburg. Along the Danube, past the former Korneuburg shipyard, you’ll then return via Donaustraße to the starting point of the bike tour: the Korneuburg train station and station square. The tour is signposted in both directions and can therefore be customized to suit your preferences.
