Description

Cycling around the entire Vienna Woods is an easy way to discover culture and nature. Leisure cyclists allow around five days for the 215 km (hardly any inclines) and appreciate the combination of culture and nature, always along the water.

Relaxed cycling: beautiful route with few climbs

The route includes towpaths along the banks of the Danube and the Via Sacra leading to Mariazell. In between are magnificent monasteries, romantic meadows, light forests, tranquil villages and numerous hosts who are well prepared for cycling guests. The direction is usually set by the four rivers: In addition to the Danube, the Vienna Woods Cycle Tour follows the Traisen, the Gölsen, the Triesting and finally the Wiener Neustadt Canal. This promises not only few climbs (in fact, only the fourth stage of the day has three climbs), but also cycle paths away from traffic.

Water, forest and wine

Water, forest and wine are the main protagonists in the Vienna Woods. And on the Vienna Woods Cycle Tour, you will encounter all three in many different forms. Water is a faithful companion along 5 rivers, refreshing tired calves on many an idyllic riverbank and luring you to the traditional baths of the spa town of Baden on the final stage. Riparian forests line the route along the Danube and Traisen, then change to the pre-alpine coniferous forests before Lilienfeld - the most densely wooded region in Austria - and then become natural mixed forests again towards Vienna. And the wine does the honors in three sections: Klosterneuburg, the Traisental and Thermenregion are not only known for their excellent wines, but also for their very independent Heurigen culture.
