Angern an der March

The market town of Angern an der March nestles on the northern edge of the fertile Marchfeld in the district of Gänserndorf. It consists of the four districts of Angern, Mannersdorf, Ollersdorf and Stillfried/Grub. The municipality of Angern was first mentioned in documents in 1260. The former castle was destroyed in 1945 - today only a small section of wall remains as a reminder of the former magnificent building.

Angern is separated from neighboring Slovakia by the border river Morava. A ferry connects the two countries. The Morava is considered a rather calm river with protected flora and fauna. A great tip for outdoor excursions here are the popular Weinviertel canoe trips: the Hohenau-Angern route, for example, takes around six hours. Those who prefer cycling to canoeing can set off from Angern train station on a panoramic cycle route that takes around 4.5 hours. The challenging route offers beautiful views and cozy refreshment stops.

Excursion tips for Angern an der March: from Buschenschank (typical tavern) to prehistoric museum

The museum in Stillfried presents archaeologically significant finds from the Stillfried excavation site. The exhibits in the Center of Prehistory include exciting everyday objects and more - from the Neolithic Age to the Hallstatt culture. The Angern an der March parish church and the Rochus Chapel in Mannersdorf are also well worth a visit. In Angern, (organic) wineries, Buschenschank (typical taverns) and family-friendly inns provide for your physical well-being.
