Burgschleinitz - Kühnring

The market town of Burgschleinitz-Kühnring is located in the Horn district on the elongated ridge of the Manhartsberg - the border between the Waldviertel and Weinviertel regions. Numerous prehistoric and early historical finds provide evidence of the hundreds of millions of years of formation and 30,000 years of settlement in this historically significant landscape.

The municipal area consists of the villages of Amelsdorf, Burgschleinitz, Buttendorf, Harmannsdorf and Kühnring as well as Matzelsdorf, Reinprechtspölla, Sachsendorf, Sonndorf and Zogelsdorf.

Burgschleinitz-Kühnring: history & stories

The historical trails of the municipality are particularly exciting: Kühnring Castle - on the site of which the parish church now stands - was built back in the first half of the 12th century, for example.

Zogelsdorf stone, in turn, was considered an important material for the stonemasons of the Baroque and Historicist periods.

In addition, the world-famous Nobel Peace Prize winner Bertha von Suttner wrote her book "Lay Down Your Arms!" at Harmannsdorf Castle. For this reason, the international Bertha von Suttner Association is also based in Harmannsdorf. Today, however, the impressive castle can only be visited from the outside.

Magnificent castles and beautiful churches characterize the entire municipality: including Harmannsdorf Castle and Burgschleinitz Castle as well as the parish church of St. Michael and Karner in Burgschleinitz - or the parish churches in Kühnring and Reinprechtspölla.
