Ebenthal

Ebenthal is located at the foothills of the Marchfeld, on the edge of the Matzner Forest, nestled in a charming hilly landscape.

The first traces of settlement in the Ebenthal (Stillfrieder) area date back to well before the Christian era. The village itself was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century. Ebenthal was owned by sovereigns who named themselves after the village. The first pictorial representation of Ebenthal Castle dates back to 1672. Most of the present castle dates back to the first half of the 18th century. In 1732, Ebenthal came into the possession of Andreas Josef Count Kohary. Ebenthal appears as a market as early as 1773. It was first documented as a market town in 1880.

Ebenthal is surrounded by vineyards and around 700 hectares of mixed oak forest. Protected by our Ebenthal forest, a highly digestible red and white wine is produced on the favorable slopes and sandy loam soils that characterize our village.
