Eisgarn
The market town of Eisgarn in the district of Gmünd invites you to enjoy a vacation far away from the hustle and bustle. The village was first mentioned in documents in 1294 and a secular canon monastery was founded in 1330. Today, the Provost's Abbey has a firm place in the Waldviertel cultural scene. Numerous concerts and exhibitions take place throughout the year. The community is also an ideal starting point for relaxing hikes. With an organic farm and a vacation apartment in the village, family accommodation is available all year round.
Eisgarn and its sights
The most important sights in this quiet community are the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which was extensively renovated in 1999, and the Kolomanistein: a small chapel built on a cup stone. The Propsteihof with its Gothic core is also particularly worth seeing.
From Katzenstein to Höllgraben: Hiking the Eisgarn
The easy Katzenstein Trail is a great circular tour tip for hikers: it leads from the Eisgarn market square via several natural monuments - such as the Kolomani Stone and the Five Brothers Tree - back to the starting point. The easy Kreuzberg panorama trail is also very popular: it runs from the market square via Höllgraben and along the pond.
