Eschenau
Hiking bar: The eco-community of Eschenau in the district of Lilienfeld is nestled in a side valley of the Traisen - around 20 kilometers away from Lower Austria's provincial capital of Sankt Pölten. In ancient times, the area belonged to the province of Noricum, with the first documentary mention dating back to 1230. Today, in addition to Eschenau, the villages of Rotheau, Steubach, Wehrabach, Sonnleitgraben and Laimergraben belong to the municipality. With beautiful inns and a hut, Eschenau is a tip for relaxed hiking vacations - with impressive historical sights.
Eschenau: hiking in the eco-village
The municipality of Eschenau is home to many beautiful hiking trails - and three mountains: the Lindenberg (946 meters), the Lorenzi-Pechkogel (883 meters) and the Kaiserkogel. The latter delights hikers of all ages with the popular Kaiserkogel hut at an altitude of 716 meters: Here - surrounded by a postcard landscape of meadows and forests - wonderful views and down-to-earth, organic cuisine await. The cozy dormitory and several rooms offer plenty of space to spend the night in authentic alpine style.
Worth seeing in Eschenau
The Eschenau elementary school was built in 1908 as a jubilee school in honor of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Another special sight is the parish church of St. Katharina: the early Gothic hall church from around 1300 impresses with its massive fortified tower from 1541.
