Gaubitsch
Welcome to Gaubitsch: The municipality in the Weinviertel is located around eight kilometers from Laa an der Thaya. It comprises the three villages of Altenmarkt, Gaubitsch and Kleinbaumgarten.
Gaubitsch was first mentioned in a document in 1055 and the church on a hill in the middle of the village is one of the oldest in the region. The core of the Gaubitsch parish church is Romanesque, the choir is Gothic. The church, dedicated to St. Stephen, is surrounded by a cemetery.
The three late Gothic light columns from the late 15th century are also worth seeing: One of them is decorated with so-called defensive heads, which were supposed to ward off evil forces.
