Geras: spiritual explorations & family experiences in the nature park

The Premonstratensian monastery in Geras is a landmark and a spiritual and cultural focal point. In addition to permanent and temporary exhibitions, the monastery - founded around 1150 - now offers regular events and seminars. The herb garden goes back to the popular herbalist priest Hermann Weidinger, who as a canon was significantly involved in the rediscovery of medicinal herbalism.

Right next to the monastery, the 132-hectare Geras Nature Park invites visitors to enjoy breathtaking observations of flora and fauna: Fallow deer, red deer and aurochs graze in the wild, a lookout point offers exciting views of herons and storks, and large carp frolic in the fish pond. The campsite, themed trails and petting zoo as well as guided tours and workshops invite visitors to explore the nature park.

In summer, the Edlersee lake attracts swimmers with its sunbathing lawn, sandy gravel shore and playground. The former Geras granary from the late 17th century now functions as a comfortable hotel. The listed Roman Catholic parish church of Harth hl. Rochus dating back to 1835 is also worth a visit.

The internationally renowned akademie.GERAS has been an established art and course center for decades: every year it offers numerous art courses ranging from painting, music and sculpture to photography - and thus a lively dialogue between artists and seminar participants.
