Gföhl

The municipality of Gföhl lies to the north-east of the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) in the district of Krems-Land. The municipal area comprises 19 villages. Gföhl became very well known for hosting the popular Winnetou Festival for many years. These took place in Gföhl from 1995 to 2001 and from 2013 to 2016.

Today, the town offers unspoilt landscapes and family-friendly accommodation - for vacations close to nature, entertaining excursions or vacations with the whole family.

Leisure tips for families

The Gföhl adventure pool is a paradise for water lovers: the spacious outdoor pool is equipped with a sunbathing lawn, playground, beach volleyball court and water slide.

Places of interest

Numerous listed buildings and magnificent buildings characterize Gföhl - from the Edhofer inn with its centuries-old core to the baroque parish church of St. Andrew and the old town hall from the 16th and 17th centuries. The Rosalia Chapel - a Roman Catholic pilgrimage chapel - is located in Gföhleramt.

Impressive castles can be found in Rastbach and Felling. The ruins of Hohenstein Castle are also well worth a visit. The privately owned remains of the spur castle, first mentioned in documents in the 12th century, are enthroned on a rock above the Krems.
