Haunoldstein
The municipality of Haunoldstein in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land lies at the foot of the extensive Dunkelsteinerwald forest. The village was mentioned in documents as early as 1161. Today, the area comprises the four cadastral communities of Eibelsau, Großsierning, Haunoldstein and Osterburg. With a playground, tennis facilities and beautiful bathing spots on the Pielach, the Mostviertel region is ideal for active family vacations. Two friendly inns and a hotel invite you to eat, drink and stay overnight.
Haunoldstein: a hiking paradise with many facets
The best way to discover the landscape of Haunoldstein is on a hike - over hill and dale and through the (Dunkelstein) forest. Exciting sights await visitors: the spring of the famous Bründl Chapel, for example, has been said to have healing powers since the end of the 19th century.
The parish church of St. Michael - an old fortified church dating back to the 12th century and visible from afar - features architectural elements from several eras. The Osterburg ruins on a steep slope on the banks of the Pielach are also adventurous: Some of the ancient walls of the medieval fortified castle have been preserved to this day. There is also plenty to see at the viewpoint from the Sierninger Kreuz - with a view over the whole of Haunoldstein.
Tip for families: The easy DUR 8 stage tour from Inning to Hafnerbach takes hikers of all ages over the Sierninger Berg to Haunoldstein and Groß Sierning.
