Marktgemeinde Kapelln

The market town of Kapelln an der Perschling lies at the exact center of Lower Austria. In ancient times, the area belonged to the province of Noricum - situated on the civil road from Carnuntum via Vindobona (today's Vienna) to Aelium Cetium (today's Sankt Pölten). The village was first mentioned in documents in the 9th century. The parish of Kapelln was founded in the 11th century.

Today, 15 villages belong to the municipality: in addition to Kapelln, these include Etzersdorf, Rassing and Thalheim. With enchanting sights and family-friendly cycling and hiking trails, this is a great place to spend a vacation - or enjoy a day trip. Everywhere you go, inns, wine taverns and cozy accommodations ensure the physical well-being of their guests.

Discover Kapelln: chapels and wine cellar lanes
There is a lot to see on a walk through Kapelln. Several romantic wine cellar lanes and pretty wayside chapels characterize the landscape. A great route is the Kapelln circular hiking trail: in around six hours, it takes you past the most beautiful sights - such as the Andreas-Friedenswarte or Thalheim Castle.

Excursion tips in Kapelln
The Andreas-Friedenswarte offers the best panoramic views of the foothills of the Alps. Not far from there, the Max Schubert-Warte marks the center of Lower Austria. Thalheim Castle is an imposing building dating from the 16th to the 19th century: now a hotel and event venue, it invites visitors to the restaurant, to events or for comfortable overnight stays - in the middle of baroque rose gardens. There are also two impressive churches to discover in the municipality: the branch church in Katzenberg and the parish church of St. Petronilla in Kapelln.
