A beautiful place for family vacations and active vacations not far from Vienna: Matzendorf-Hölles - located in the Vienna Alps between Leobersdorf and Wiener Neustadt - is a popular touring tip for cyclists and mountain bikers. Traditional wineries and cozy wine taverns as well as inns and cafés invite you to take a culinary break.
Matzendorf-Hölles: a paradise for cyclists
The municipality is located directly on the Fit & Fun-Föhrenroute, which leads to Markt Piesting. There it merges into the Biedermeier cycle path: one of the most popular cycle routes in the country. It leads through the Piestingtal valley to Gutenstein or to the Myra Falls in Muggendorf.
Tip: An unmarked, very popular route leads 11 to 15 kilometers around Matzendorf. It can be experienced as well as hiked. There are beautiful natural highlights along the way on forest, field and gravel paths as well as asphalt roads: a healing spring, a model airfield, paddocks for horses and a magical biotope.
Excursion destinations worth seeing in Matzendorf-Hölles
In addition to discovering several pretty wayside shrines in the village, it is worth visiting the parish church from the late 18th century and the local chapel of St. Koloman. The Pecherpfad trail on the edge of the Hölles forest is a reminder of the early craft of resin extraction - a regional tradition that dates back to the 17th century.
The fire-fighting pond in Matzendorf is also historically significant: an open wooden hut with a trough has been preserved next to the pond to this day. In times long past, laundry was brought here to be washed. The former winegrowers also used the pond to soak their barrels and vats in order to seal them.
