Pillichsdorf
The market town of Pillichsdorf in the district of Mistelbach is a romantic wine village on the slopes of the Hochleithenwald - situated on the edge of the Marchfeld. A tumulus (burial mound) and other finds from the Hallstatt period are evidence of the early settlement of the area in the Weinviertel. In addition to Pillichsdorf, the cadastral community of Reuhof is also part of today's municipal area - a former estate, left over from a farming village that was destroyed in the 15th century.
Buschenschank (typical taverns) and beautiful sights characterize the landscape of Pillichsdorf. Family-friendly inns and accommodation - from vacation apartments to bed and breakfasts - invite you to enjoy an excursion close to nature or a tranquil vacation away from stress and traffic noise.
Pillichsdorf: Historical sights & excursion tips
The idyllic wine cellar lane, which is divided by a green belt, is particularly well-known. Also worth seeing in Pillichsdorf are the statue of the Virgin Mary "Am Rußbach", a statue of St. Martin, the "Holy Family" shrine, the Hager mill from the 14th century and the old pillory on the main square. The baroque parish church of St. Martin from the 17th century even has a small museum attached: The Pillichsdorf Tower Museum - located in the church tower, which is over 500 years old - displays exhibits from prehistory to modern times.
The Pillichsdorf tumulus
The 5-metre-high Calvary rises about 1.5 kilometers from the center of Pillichsdorf. The tumulus served as a burial mound for a prince from the Hallstatt period. The excavations carried out at the end of the 19th century are exhibited in the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Baroque statues of saints and a wooden cross from the 18th century still stand on the hill today.
