The market town of Rabensburg in the district of Mistelbach is a popular destination for family vacations close to nature and excursions into the countryside. The Weinviertel town is located on the border with the Czech Republic, formed by the River Thaya. The great outdoor leisure options range from hikes and bike tours to canoe trips.
Rabensburg: action in the water & cycling for kids
Canoe adventures and stand-up paddling on the Thaya and March rivers are an unforgettable outdoor tip for the whole family. The spacious outdoor pool in Rabensburg - with wellness and adventure zones as well as a leisure center with playground - is ideal for young and old water rats and bathing beauties.
A particularly nice tip for families with children is the easy cycle tour from Rabensburg to Hohenau. Playgrounds and swimming areas await along the child-friendly route through the March-Thaya floodplains. If you're lucky, you might also spot frogs, birds and other fascinating inhabitants of the floodplains.
Finds from ancient times & sights in Rabensburg
Rabensburg was first mentioned in a document in 1255. However, the settlement of today's Rabensburg dates back much earlier, as finds from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Hallstatt periods prove. Three valuable Hallstatt burial mounds have been preserved to this day.
The listed former vicarage houses the Rabensburg Museum. The parish church is dedicated to St. Helena. There is also a medieval castle in the historic village: Rabensburg Castle was extended in the 17th century. The historic building, which is privately owned, can only be viewed from the outside.
