Raxendorf
Raxendorf in the district of Melk is nestled in a beautiful hilly landscape - between the western slope of the Jauerling and the Waldviertel high plateau. Over 30 villages and individual farm settlements are scattered across the entire municipal area - at an altitude of 450 to 850 meters. The nature-loving market town is best explored on easy hikes or by bike or mountain bike.
Raxendorf: excursion tips & sights
The pilgrimage church in Heiligenblut is very popular: the late Gothic parish church impresses with its high sacrament house from the 15th century and beautiful stained glass windows. It is said to stand on the site of an earlier miracle of the host. The so-called Sassingschlösserl is also well worth a visit: a castle ruin made of chiseled stone.
There is a lot to see at the highest point of Pöggstall: at an altitude of 911 meters above sea level, the barrier-free viewing platform in Braunegg offers a magnificent panoramic view. Information boards, wooden fountains, animal figures and a canopy with a telescope make this lovingly designed vantage point an ideal resting place.
Hiking in Raxendorf - and experiencing it
Numerous moderate and well-marked hiking routes lead through the Raxendorf area - over gently undulating meadows and through shady forests. Popular routes include the three-hour Jauerling-Runde 05 from Weiten to Raxendorf, the romantic Kaiserhöhlenweg - a circular tour starting and finishing at the Raxendorf municipal office - or the easy Kreuzriedel-Rundweg.
A great tip for mountain bikers is the scenic "Großer Berg" route: it is a short circular tour from the Raxendorf municipal office and back again.
