Schönbach pilgrimage site: pilgrimage in the footsteps of the emperor
Schönbach was first mentioned in documents as a market town in the middle of the 14th century. From the 15th century onwards, it was a popular place of pilgrimage. One of the most popular pilgrims was Emperor Leopold I. The Gothic pilgrimage church - with the late Gothic miraculous image of Maria Rast on the triumphal arch - is still popular today.
Old crafts & fresh laundry in Schönbach
In the Schönbach Museum, old crafts - such as basket weaving and soap boiling - are brought back to life. Exhibitions and guided tours convey almost forgotten worlds of work. Since 2017, the Schönbach community center has also been home to the Laundry Care Museum: countless exhibits on the subject are on display throughout the decades - from laundry ironers to detergents and historical irons to old and modern washing machine models.
